Maurits Mantiri Tak Maju di Pilkada Bitung, Ucapkan Selamat Berkompetisi untuk Para Kandidat

Bitung, VivaSulut.com – Wali Kota Bitung, Maurits Mantiri menyampaikan selamat berkompetisi kepada para kandidat yang telah resmi mendaftar ke KPU sebagai Bakal Pasangan Calon Wali Kota dan Wakil Wali Kota.

Ketua DPC PDI Perjuangan Kota Bitung ini, tidak ikut maju di Pilkada Kota Bitung dengan berbagai pertimbangan. Kendati sebelumnya sempat digadang-gadang sebagai rival terkuat yang bakal dihadapi kontestan Pilkada.

“Selamat berkompetisi bagi para kandidat. Saya fokus saja menyelesaikan tugas memimpin daerah sampai periode ini selesai,” kata Maurits, Kamis (29/8/2024).

Dirinya berharap Pilkada dapat berjalan aman, lancar dan sesuai ketentuan, agar supaya hajatan tersebut bisa menghasilkan pemimpin daerah yang berkualitas.

“Karena itu mari kita support KPU dan Bawaslu selaku penyelenggara Pilkada. Harapannya tentu agar pesta demokrasi ini bisa terlaksana dengan baik,” katanya.

Maurits menyampaikan alasannya tak mencalonkan diri lagi, kendati sesuai aturan, dirinya masih bisa maju karena baru satu periode menjabat Wali Kota Bitung.

“Tentu ada pertimbangan sebelum memutuskan tidak maju lagi. Ada banyak hal yang dipertimbangkan karena ini menyangkut keputusan politik,” katanya.

Ia mengakui keputusan yang diambil bukan hal yang mudah. Kurang lebih 20 tahun ia berkarir di dunia politik, baik sebagai anggota DPRD Kota Bitung, Wakil Wali Kota Bitung dan terakhir Wali Kota Bitung, adalah sebuah perjalanan panjang yang sulit dilupakan.

“Ada yang bilang, kekuasaan itu nikmat, kalau sudah pegang kekuasaan pasti ingin terus berkuasa. Tapi ternyata saya bisa membuktikan kebalikannya. Memang memutuskan untuk tidak maju lagi butuh pertimbangan yang matang. Tapi kalau kita ikhlas, itu akan terasa lebih mudah,” jelasnya.

Pun demikian, Maurits mengaku pertimbangan utamanya memutuskan tidak maju lagi tak lain karena keluarga.

“Keluarga, itu pertimbangan utamanya. Selain fokus menyelesaikan tugas yang diamanatkan konstitusi sebagai kepala daerah, saya juga akan fokus mengurus keluarga. Apalagi sekarang ada masalah ibu (Rita Tangkudung,red), jadi saya harus lebih fokus mengurus keluarga. Ada juga cucu-cucu saya yang butuh perhatian karena selama ini jarang bertemu,” katanya.

Ketua PKB GMIM Sulut ini, juga menyentil tugas pelayanannya di kegiatan gerejani. Selama ini sebagai Pelayan Khusus, ia harus bisa membagi waktu dengan aktivitas lainnya sehingga di sisa waktu akan memilih fokus pada tugas-tugas tersebut.

“Kan kalau masih maju lagi tentu sibuk. Tapi sekarang karena tidak maju saya bisa lebih fokus di situ,” katanya.
